Thank you for supporting the work and ministry that Connect City Church continues to do in, and for, the people of Battle Creek, MI! Tithing can be considered a "scary church thing" for many reasons. Fear of the unknown or unpaid bills, previous misuse or abuse of funds, etc. Tithing is not a new thing. The first record is found in Genesis 14 (pre-law) and continues being talked about through the Old Testament law. This is where some people get hung up, thinking it was just for Old Testament times and not today. Let's look at a discussion between some religious leaders and Jesus, who radicalized the life of faith we are called to live today.
Matthew 23:23 “How terrible it will be for you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you are careful to tithe even the tiniest part of your income, but you ignore the important things of the law - justice, mercy and faith. You should tithe, yes, but you should not leave undone the more important things.”
When we tithe we give to be obedient, but not out of obligation. Three important elements take place when we give:
-We recognize that everything we have is from the Lord!
-We express gratitude for what He has already done AND faith for what the Lord is doing now and tomorrow!
-We promote God's agenda through the local church and around the world!
At 3C, we love the promises of God's Word to us. "Understand, therefore, that the Lord your God is indeed God. He is the faithful God who keeps His covenant for a thousand generations and lavishes His love on those who love Him and obey His commands." ~ Deuteronomy 7:9
